One-of-a-kind belt takes the spotlight at the 75th Cannes Film Festival

A bespoke Mouawad creation took its turn in the spotlight on Wednesday May 25, when celebrated Australian director Baz Luhrmann attended the world premiere of his latest feature Elvis at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

Multi-award-winning director Luhrmann holds the honor of being the only director to have opened the Cannes Film Festival twice, with Moulin Rouge! in 2001 , which went on to receive eight Oscar nominations, and The Great Gatsby in 2013. His relationship with the festival began in 1992, when his first directed feature Strictly Ballroom had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard category.

Walking the iconic Cannes red carpet stairs, Luhrmann shone in the spotlight courtesy of the eye-catching Elvis-themed belt that adorned his attire. Crafted uniquely for Luhrmann by Mouawad, the leather belt is set with 10.48 carat of black and white diamonds as well as 5.09 carat of pink sapphires across its length as well as on the buckle, where the name Elvis appears in ruby enamel.

Fifth generation Mouawad Co-guardian Jimmy Mouawad was in attendance at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival for the Elvis world premiere and commented, “Crafting the extraordinary is our passion and this is an occasion when it is inspired by an extraordinary personality. It is always a pleasure to work on bespoke Mouawad pieces and then to see them take the spotlight, especially during a global event that celebrates creativity such as the Cannes Film Festival.”
